Hakhâmanish (reign circa 700BC-680BC)

Hakhamanish (meaning friendly in nature) (western: Achaemenes) was the founder of the bloodline that became the Hakhamanishya (Achaemenid) dynasty. His existence is not confirmed and some believe him to be only a character of myth. However most Persian sources cite him as the leader who seeded the Hakhamanishya dynasty. He was most likely a local warrior-leader who gained control of tribes in the lake Urmia region of northwest Iran.

Around the time that Hakhamanish supposedly ruled Persia texts from Assyria mention the Parsu or the Persians. They also cite numerous disturbances and raids by the Persians that the Assyrians repelled. Whether the leader's name was Hakhamanish or not, it is clear that Iran began to unite and future events would eventually lead to the development of the Persian empire.
