Darayavaush II (reign circa 423BC-404BC)

After Sughudana had killed Khshayarsha II, Darayavaush II, then satrap of Hyrcania, conspired with his cavalry commander to have Sughudana killed and took the throne for himself. His real name is given as Ochus by Ctesias, but he took the name Darayavaush after his predecessor. After this Darayavaush fought some minor rebellions and retained power. Not much is known of his life. It is believed that around 408BC Darayavaush sent his son Kuroush to aid the Spartans in their wars with Athens. A tactic aimed at keeping Greece in a stated of war and limiting its power.
