Artakhshathra III(reign circa 358BC-338BC) Not much is known of Artakhshathra III. During his reign he stabilized much of the empire. He reportedly took care of unloyal satraps and maintained strong control. In 343BC he led a successful campaign crushing Necatanebo II of Egypt and reclaiming it as a satrap; Egypt had originally revolted under his father's reign. As with his predecessor, the Cadusian tribe yet again revolted in the Elburz. However, Darayavaush III, who was to be the last Persian monarch, challenged the heir of the Cadusians to a duel defeating him and ending that conflict. Artakhshathra III and his family were later assasinated by his adviser Bagoi and only his youngest son remained.
